I first heard Conte and Pete on the Doobie Brothers "Stampede" Album. They played some trumpet licks on the cut "I Cheat the Hangman" back in 1976. Then discovered the Conte's ties to the Tonight Show.

  Thanks for a great site.
First became aware of Conte Candoli when I heard him play ''Portrait of Count'' with Kenton.
I saw Pete Candoli, briefly,on a TV show sometime in the '60's.It was called ''Johnny Staccato'' and featured John Cassavettes as a jazz pianist doubling as a private-eye.I got a kick when I saw Pete Candoli!

Pete and Conte although they were two of the greatest jazz musicians were also two of the finest gentlemen I have ever met. Regardless of their stature they were always very down to earth and always very frendly. I certainly will miss them here in the Denver area.

The Condoli brothers were giants in the jazz world. I dug Conte's work with the Dreamband and also with the incomparable Frank Rosolino. I admired the immense talent both brothers had and they are missed!

They were both the best. Their styles so individual and my inspiration as a young musician. Sad to hear of Pete's passing as he contributed so much to the music scene in his lifetime. And Conte is missed also for his amazing contributions. What a team they were. I had no favorites, they both did their thing, and it was exciting.

Sorry for your loss....and the people that were their peers and fans...

I just saw, this evening, the movie entitled, "Mulholland Drive". Conte had a very small appearance, performing a very short riff on muted trumpet. I knew it was him immediately. The movie was released the year Conte died. I wish that, at the very least, they had spelled his first and last names correctly. Conte Candoli will always be my favorite trumpet player.

I'll never forget Pete as long as I live. He made this then very young drummer fearless. Farewell cat and thanks for the career.

An incomparable pair of musical giants. Even on records from L.A. where the band wasn't credited, you'd hear something just right, sit up & say, "Ah, that's got to be a Candoli!"
