I met Pete Candoli around 1984 when he bought a pair of sheepskin seat covers from me for his Porsche car..
We had a nice conversation and I was left with the impression that I had just met one very cool guy.
I'm sorry to hear of his passing and offer condolences to his wife Sheryl, his daughters & family.

What a loss to the music world with the passing of Pete Candoli......a loss that can never filled. I first met Pete in 1987 and first played with Pete for 1 week in 1990 with Lionel Hampton at the BIG BANDS at Disneyland venue. What an education I received by sitting next to him. He was one of a kind....if you met him for a week you were friends for life. I will miss his kiss on both cheeks every time we met. His recordings speak for themselves. He was like another Italian father to me.....Bye Pete. |

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Pete.. He is now with Conte. The world has lost two great players. I am sure heaven is swinging with Condoli brothers leading the way. We were lucky to have them and hear them for as long as we did. Godspeed Pete! |

So sad to hear that one of the greatest trumpet players left us. The Candolis were and will always be my teacher (by example).
Godspeed, |

pete & conte were big influences in my youth. i am now enjoying old reruns from the peter gunn series.
i was always proud to say that the candolis also came from indiana.
i have played trumpet since 1954 and was a school band director for 39 years. i have never stopped playing trumpet which was always my first love. thanks for the great memories.

Pete will be greatly missed by jazz aficionados everywhere. He was a popular and respected musician whose solos set him apart from the crowd, and whose contribution to the jazz scene will live on and on. The obituary in this morning?s Los Angeles Times neglected to mention the many awards he received, the most notables being from Downbeat and Metronome Magazines, being chosen as one of the 7 greatest trumpeters of all time by Esquire and Look Magazines, and his induction in the International Jazz Hall of Fame in 1997.
Rest in peace, Pete. |

Sheryl, my heart goes out to you.
Now both Candoli Brothers are gone, and the world of music is a lot less joyful.
Both Pete and Conte had terrific senses of humor, and I loved watching them perform anywhere and everywhere I was lucky enough to.
Hope there's a big band in that "somewhere" looking for another super fine trumpet player to fill a seat.
My thoughts and hugs to you, Sheryl. |

I have a treasured photo of me with the 'brothers', taken in 91 at the Newporter Kenton bash, it has just become even more valuable to me, I thank them for the hours of listening pleasure |
