Over half a century, I've bought many albums with the Candoli brothers starting with the Herman and Kenton bands.
Their individual greatness first registered for me with Conte on ''Fine and Dandy'' in the Ventura 1949 Concert and with Pete (Cootie Chesterfield) on the 1953 10'' ''Black Coffee'' and I still play these regularly to this day.
I'm going to an LAJI Kenton celebration in May where I know I'll hear many tributes to these two wonderful musicians when chatting with other participants.
Jazz fans everywhere should thank God for providing us with an opportunity to hear, even if only on record, these amazing hornmen.

The pictures are priceless. I enjoyed them immensely. The Candoli brothers were great players. Although I only got to see one of them (Conte) once, I still purchase anything that becomes available. Their place in jazz history is secure.

| I was present at ''Way Out West'' in Redondo Beach and got to see my two idols, Pete and Conte. Pete, thank you for your music. I played your records in Viet Nam and it helped get thru hell. God Bless, Frankie Strub, Corpus Christi, Tx. |

As a kid I remember Conte with Ch Ventura. He said ''plays nice trumpet'' and he sure did. The Candoli's were heroes to me, with Herman/Kenton/etc. I was honored to be able to record them in the early 80's. God blessed us with these wonderful guys, and is looking after the Count. Thanks to Sheryl for this wonderful website. Pass the word. Respectfully and with love. Ivan |

Secondo ''Conte'' will be greatly missed. A huge hole was bored into the Heavens the day he passed; he is now playen with Gabrial. Thanks Pete and Conte for the memories. From a Trumpet Player - Ed Spearman :)

God, how I love you guys! Pete, I am STILL writing the book about Gozzo and have more interviews. You can call me anytime at 800-358-7898; you are such an important part of Goz's life and the life of all that great music, that I just cannot leave you out! I am so sorry about the loss of your beloved brother, and the loss to the jazz world of someone so profound. Together and individually, you raised the bar to a dizzying height, and I personally want you to know that you have brought me so much pleasure that it is almost impossible to express. Pete, keep plugging; keep the fire burning. I love you and your music and wish you only the best. |
