Congratulation and many thanks for this site. This morning I listen to the Jimmy Rowles CD <let's get acqainted with jazz> and I realised that I didn't know anything about Pete Candoli (what a shame). Thanks to this site I have learned a lot. Maybe you can give me a proposal for some more recordings with him.
Thanks again and have a nice day

Just a note to let you know that we had the pleasure of meeting and hearing your brother at his last visit to the Jazz Showcase. He was a sheer delight. He had such a wonderful time, and kept telling us (the audience) "it took me four years to get back here, let's hear some applause" which we were delighted to give him. He is sorely missed musically, and I am sure, personally by his many friends and family.

Have a great day!

Thank you for this great website! I know that everyone is aware of the great jazz solos both brothers have played on many of jazz' greatest recordings - but I don't think many are aware of what an important lead player Pete was and the tremendous influence his lead playing had on all the lead trumpeters who came later.
My hat's off to one of the greatest (and unsung)lead trumpeters of all time!

Thanks Sheryl
For the great CD. Please give more than my best wishes to Pete. I play the Peggy Lee tracks on Black Coffee so often. The backings are full of the deepest and energetic sensitivity. I'm ashamed to say that the opening of I've Got You Under My Skin is my ring tone and students ask, 'Where can I get that'?

I first heard of Conte from my private teacher just recently. I am now transcribing his solos, looking for recordings and.....
how do I get that sound!

When I was a young trumpet player back in the sixties, I remember laying in my dark bedroom listening to two for the money. Man I loved that album, I just wore it out. The candolis are "Jazz Trumpet" God bless you Pete. You have touched a lot of people. Most of whom you don't even know, and I'm one of the many.

In the early 80's when I was living in California I had the privilage of going and hearing Pete and Conti and some supperclub around San Fransisco. The name escapes me but the evening doesnt. I sat 3 feet in front of Pete and Conti's horns ALL NIGHT LONG! What a great thrill that was. I could not believe it when about 10-15 years later I was to have a bigger thrill. Conti Candoli came to Tulsa Oklahoma to play with the University of Tulsa jazz band which I had been playing jazz trumpet with. The director knew what a huge Conti fan I was so I got to drive him around but better yet I got to play a tune with just myself, Conti and the rythym section. I chose a tune that Conti and Frank Rosolino had recorded on the Conversations album entitled "Attention". While I was pleased with what I had to "say" I literally stood there in awe of Conti as he effortlessly played his ass off. What a great sound. Great ideas. He was as fluid on the trumpet as any trumpeter ever. At times he made it sound like a tenor sax. Conversations is one of the greatest jazz albums ever recorded by the way. Conti was very gracious to allow a midwest country boy to play with him. I will never forget that night as I have the entire concert on video. I will also never forget Conti Condoli.
